Harewood confident for Newcastle

Harewood came on in Saturday's trip to Ipswich

Marlon Harewood is confident his loan club Newcastle United can secure an immediate return to the Premier League this season.

The Aston Villa striker joined the Magpies on a three-month deal and believes if the personnel at St James' focus then promotion is possible.

"They've got great players from the Premier League and the majority are still here," he told BBC Newcastle.

"Hopefully the lads will be hungry enough to get the club back there."

Harewood made his first appearance of the season for the Magpies against Ipswich last weekend, coming off the bench in the 4-0 win at Portman Road.

Having spent the tail-end of last season on loan at Wolves, Harewood's last outing for Villa came in the Uefa Cup last season, but the 30-year-old says he is keen to figure as much as possible during his three-month spell.

"The only way to get fit is to play games and Chris Hughton threw me in just to see how I was and I felt good," he said.

"I just said to him I'm ready whenever he wants to chuck me in. I'm here to enjoy my football."
