Gavilan has made only a handful of appearances for the Magpies

Newcastle's Paraguayan international Diego Gavilan is to join Brazilian club Sporting Club Internacional.

Gavilan will join the club until December, with the Magpies holding an option to sell him outright during the summer.

The deal was set up during chairman Freddy Shepherd's visit to Sao Paulo last week.

Shepherd had visited Brazil in an attempt to sign Atletico Paranaense's World Cup winning midfielder Kleberson.

The 22-year-old Gavilan arrived at St James' Park in February 2000 in a �2m move from Paraguayan club Cerro Porteno.

However, he has struggled to make his mark on Tyneside, and has only made eight senior appearances.

The last came as a substitute in a 2-0 Worthington Cup victory over Leyton Orient in September 2000.
