Motherwell once refused �750,000 for Reynolds

Motherwell have rejected a £100,000 offer from Sheffield Wednesday for Mark Reynolds, BBC Scotland has learned.

Wednesday boss Alan Irvine has shown interest before in the defender, who is out of contract in June.

In 2008, the Lanarkshire club refused £750,000 from Rangers for the 23-year-old who has been capped at B international level for Scotland.

Meanwhile, Alan Gow has not been offered an extension to his short-term deal and has left Fir Park.

Motherwell have also lost top scorer Nick Blackman, who has returned to Blackburn Rovers after his loan spell.

Aberdeen would like to take the 21-year-old to Pittodrie but Fir Park manager Stuart McCall is confident his club will have the first option to bring him back.

"Having spoken to Blackman and his representatives, if he were to return to Scotland for a further loan spell it would be with Motherwell," he told BBC Scotland.

McCall admitted his squad was now a bit thin on the ground, but the departure of Gow and Blackman frees up money from wages that can be used for new acquisitions.

The new Steelmen boss has not yet had the opportunity to appoint an assistant manager. He says his focus has been on getting the players ready for Sunday's Scottish Cup fourth-round tie against Dundee.
