Motherwell's Mark Reynolds would welcome a move to Rangers, who failed with a 750,000 bid for the defender.
"I'm contracted to Motherwell for another four years and that was to give them the option of commanding a good fee," the 21-year-old told BBC Sport.
"The manager said he wanted to keep the team together, so I don't think there is any point in living on ifs and buts.
"Any young player aspires to play at a higher level and growing up in Scotland you look at Celtic and Rangers."
Fir Park boss Mark McGhee was quick to reject the bid from Rangers after steering the Steelmen to a third place finish in the Scottish Premier League.
The centre-half broke into the Motherwell team under previous manager Maurice Malpas and was a fixture in the first-team last season.
"I suppose the ball is in Motherwell's court," added Reynolds. "I've given them the power by signing a long-term contract.
"I've seen too many players at Motherwell in the past leave on frees or for undervalued fees.
"Hopefully, if I do go, Motherwell will get a fee for me when that time comes, which would soften the blow and allow me to leave on good terms.
"If I keep playing and do well in the Uefa Cup next season then we'll see what happens at Christmas or at this stage next year.
I'm confident enough that I can go and play at the highest level
Mark Reynolds
"The manager explained that he was turning down the bid, that he was staying at Motherwell and that he wanted everyone to stay because he felt we could do something.
"He said that if teams were coming in at this point next year he would expect the bid to be a lot more and obviously that would benefit Motherwell and myself."
Reynolds, who played at last summer's Under-20 World Cup, has aspirations to represent Scotland at senior level.
"I believe and I'm confident enough that I can go and play at the highest level and one day I'll be able to take that step up," he said.
"I've seen guys like David Clarkson and Ross McCormack making their Scotland debuts with Motherwell.
"So I need to ask myself 'if they can do it, why can't I?'"
