Award winner Brown praises staff

Motherwell's Craig Brown's is the Clydesdale Bank Premier League manager of the month for February.

The 69-year-old former Scotland boss picks up the award for the second month in a row and is the first manager to do so since Hearts' George Burley in 2005.

Brown has made a great impact with the Steelmen since taking over at Fir Park at the tail end of last year.

Saturday's 1-0 home win over Kilmarnock extended fifth-placed Well's unbeaten run to eight games.

Motherwell took 11 points from 15 in February, having only conceded one goal in a 1-1 draw with league leaders Rangers.

"The award is really for Motherwell and not for me because the contribution of the staff is enormous," Brown told BBC Scotland.

"For example, our goalkeeping coach Stewart Kerr has helped John Ruddy concede one goal in nine games, so you can't minimise his contribution.

"All of the guys working with the first team are exceptionally talented and we've had a great response from the players."

Brown revealed that he is gradually going through the process of talking to first-team players who are out of contract in the summer.

He insists the players know he wants to keep them and he hopes to speak to their representatives shortly in order to get contracts tied up as soon as possible.
