Craig Brown says Motherwell don't know how to lose

Craig Brown says his Motherwell side have a welcome habit of winning

Craig Brown says his Motherwell side have forgotten how to lose after their 1-0 win over Kilmarnock extended their unbeaten run to eight games.

"I'm pleased that we have a winning mentality," the manager told BBC Scotland of a side that have lost one goal in their last nine league games.

"I was telling them that I think they don't know how to lose and hopefully that will continue.

"But I don't think you could say we are a defensive side."

Brown praised striker Jamie Murphy, whose single goal clinched victory for a second week in a row and who is in the Scotland Under-21 squad to face Azerbaijan.

"Jamie Murphy is doing very well in terms of goalscoring and he played well too," said the former Scotland manager.

"He is very hard to dispossess and has a nice turn of pace.

"I look forward to watching him play for Billy Stark's side against Azerbaijan on Tuesday."

Kilmarnock had contested the free-kick, given for a foul on Giles Coke, that led to Murphy's goal.

"I would not have liked to have had it given against us," said Brown.

"But Giles is an honest boy and says he thinks he was knocked over after letting the ball through his legs.

"And we have to be given credit for the delivery from Tom Hateley and the run and finish from Jamie Murphy."

Brown also gave credit to Kilmarnock for the visitors' performance.

"We were fortunate that we did not play as well as we can do but, on balance, probably deserved to win the game," he added.
