Morecambe manager Sammy McIlroy has expressed his delight at the form of strikers Phil Jevons and Paul Mullin.

They have each scored in successive League Two wins, over Darlington and Burton, to lift the Shrimps to within two points of the play-off places.

McIlroy told BBC Radio Lancashire: "Both of them work their socks off.

"I hope people realise what they do for the rest of the team. The work-rate the two of them do is fantastic. There is always a goal in the two of them."

Jevons, 30, has hit 16 goals in all competitions since joining Morecambe on loan from Huddersfield in August. His goal in Tuesday's 3-2 victory over Burton Albion was his 100th in the Football League.

McIlroy said: "There's goals in the boy. There is no doubt about that. But, it's not just his goals, it's his movement. Him and Mullin have got a great partnership at the moment. It's brilliant to watch."

Mullin, 35, has scored eight times since his summer move from Accrington Stanley despite missing more than a month due to injury.

McIlroy added: "With Mullin, it's what he does for everyone else in the team. He battles with centre-halves, he puts people in the game and creates chances. I just wish I'd had him five years ago."
