Blackpool edged closer to the play-off places with a win over Boro despite playing for half an hour with 10 men.
Boro will be dismayed to come away with nothing after Scott McDonald's late penalty was saved by Matthew Gilks.
Brett Ormerod put Blackpool ahead on the half-hour with a close-range finish from Gary Taylor-Fletcher's cross.
Blackpool's Rob Edwards was sent off for a professional foul on McDonald and after Gilks' late save, DJ Campbell tapped home in injury time.
Blackpool boss Ian Holloway on Matt Gilks' penalty save: "It was a fantastic save. That secured the victory for us.
"I've got two fantastic 'keepers with different personalities. There's a calm one, Paul Rachubka and an excitable one who staked his claim with a great save.
"I didn't feel it was a penalty, I felt it was given as compensation for not sending Charlie Adam off earlier."
Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan on two Blackpool fouls which denied Boro goalscoring chances: "From their point of view those were two great professional fouls because if they hadn't taken our players down we would have gone ahead.
"The game was all about the first half. Blackpool played the conditions while we were trying to play some football.
"It wasn't very good to watch but they were effective."
