Morecambe transfer embargo lifted

Morecambe

The Football League have lifted the transfer embargo imposed on League Two side Morecambe.

The embargo came into effect in January after wages at the club exceeded the maximum 60% annual income limit.

The decision was made after the sale of the Shrimps' Christie Park ground to the supermarket chain Sainsbury's.

Vice-chairman Graham Hodgson said: "We would like to thank the Football League for their sensible and pragmatic view of the situation."

Morecambe have been hit by a series of lengthy injury lay-offs, with Craig Stanley being added to the list this week with a broken metatarsal.

And Hodgson said the lifting of the embargo will be a massive boost to manager Sammy McIlroy.

"We have liaised with Sammy on a daily basis about the situation regarding the embargo.

"He has been working hard on identifying a midfield player to come in on loan after the recent injuries to Craig Stanley and Fraser McLachlan which have left us low in numbers in that department," said Hodgson.
