Twiss helped Morecambe gain promotion to the League in 2007
Bury manager Alan Knill has played down reports linking the club with Morecambe striker Michael Twiss.
Shrimps boss Sammy McIlroy had hinted a move to Bury was imminent for the 30-year-old former Manchester United man, who is under contract at Morecambe.
But Knill told the Shakers' official website: "I spoke to Sammy McIlroy but it was just an inquiry really.
"Michael is a Bury lad and he was all for it but that was as far as it went. It won't be going any further."
Twiss joined the Shrimps from Chester City in 2004 and ended last season as the club's top scorer, despite missing nearly three months through injury.
McIlroy had told his club's website: "He has been a great servant to Morecambe over the years but Bury would be ideal for him.
"He lives two minutes away from Gigg Lane. He has been travelling up and down the motorway for five years now and that takes its toll on players.
"At this stage of his career it is something that may give him a real lift and if he does sign for Bury we wish him all the best.
"I have a policy of always telling players if clubs are interested in them."
