Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan says he understands the frustrations of supporters following Saturday's 2-1 defeat by Leeds United.

Sections of the home crowd called for Strachan to be sacked towards the end of the defeat, which leaves the club in 20th place in the Championship.

"It would be hypocritical for me to complain," Strachan told BBC Tees.

"People are scared and worried about their club and it's understandable they will voice their opinions."

The Scot added: "The fans have been terrific with me since I got here home and away, and I can't change that just because of what happened in the last few minutes of the game."

The Teessiders are without a win in four matches in the Championship, with three defeats in that run.

"People can use anything they want, it's disappointing as far as I'm concerned," Strachan added.

"Whatever adjectives you want to use, you can use it whenever you feel like it.

"I'm feeling sorry for the players and the fans today, because they put so much into the game and got so little out of it."
