Middlesbrough defender Andrew Taylor is set to undergo surgery to repair a double hernia.
Taylor, 23, made his last appearance for the Teessiders in September with his season curtailed by an ankle ligament injury.
Despite making a return for the reserves, Taylor has played just four matches for the first-team this season.
The former England Under-21 player, who came through the Middlesbrough academy, has made 115 appearances for the club.
Meanwhile midfielder Shaun Saiko has been called up to Canada's Under-23 Olympic team training camp in Florida later this month.
Saiko, 20, is yet to make his debut for the Teessiders after signing professional terms in April 2009. His deal is due to end in June 2010.
