Middlesbrough defender Robert Huth is to see a specialist on Monday about the ankle injury which ruled him out of last week's game with Wigan.
The 24-year-old German needed ankle surgery to secure his 6m move from Chelsea in August 2006 after initially failing a medical.
"All we know at the moment is that he has damaged his ankle ligaments," said manager Gareth Southgate.
"He'll see a specialist and the situation will be clearer after that."
Huth is not the only Middlesbrough player with ankle problems at the moment.
Team-mate Julio Arca is in Argentina to see a specialist after breaking down in training.
