Middlesbrough striker Mido made a return to action during the reserves' 5-0 defeat to Newcastle at Billingham on Tuesday. The Egyptian international had been out since October with a groin injury but managed 45 minutes of the match before departing at half-time.
Manager Gareth Southgate told the club website: "It was the next step up from training for Mido.
"It was good to see him back on the pitch again," he added.
