Mansfield Town have signed Rotherham United defender Andy Nicholas on loan for the rest of the season.

The left-back, 26, is a long-throw specialist who began his career with Liverpool and then played for Swindon before joining Rotherham in 2008.

Stags manager David Holdsworth said: "Andy is a very strong and capable defender and I am delighted to welcome him to our club.

"I know he is looking forward to pulling on a Mansfield jersey."

Millers boss Ronnie Moore hopes the move will free some cash to strengthen his squad.

"We need to bring in another experienced centre-half in. We also need a midfield player and we need pace," Moore told BBC Radio Sheffield.
