Manchester City have secured the services of 16-year-old Schalke full-back Nils Zander.
The German youth international, still to make his senior debut for the Bundesliga side, is City boss Mark Hughes's first signing of the summer.
Zander is unlikely to be an immediate inclusion in City's first-team squad.
However, with Michael Ball set to leave in the summer and Javier Garrido out of favour he could provide cover for left-back Wayne Bridge.
City play their last game of the Premier League campaign on Sunday at home to Bolton.
They currently lie 10th in the table, trailing West Ham United by a single point.
