Pearce wants new transfer window
Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce
Pearce has called the pressure on managers "farcical"
Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce wants managers to be protected by a transfer window which limits the time period when they can lose their jobs.

Pearce was criticised after his side's 4-0 loss to Wigan and says managers are being placed under increasing pressure.

He said: "If they're going to move managers on in the future they're going to have to do it in a transfer window.

"Now one result can dictate whether you are doing well or badly - and that's not healthy for the game."

City chairman John Wardle branded the defeat at Wigan "an embarrassment" while fans also voiced their dissatisfaction.

Pearce has also faced growing criticism from the media as his side's poor away record has contributed to them sliding to 14th in the Premiership.

Telling me Alan Pardew has turned into a bad manager is farcical

The 44-year-old has drawn comparisons with under-pressure West Ham boss Alan Pardew, whose side have lost eight games in a row, and has described the increasing cauldron atmosphere surrounding managers as "farcical".

"Over the last five to six weeks I've seen x, y and z manager being touted for the sack," said Pearce.

"It seems to be accelerating out of all control and is a ridiculous trend of easy journalism.

"All of sudden people are telling me Alan Pardew is under pressure - but you can't tell me that after nine matches of a Premiership season this fella has turned into a bad manager, it's farcical."

Pearce, who took over at Eastlands in March 2005, insists he is shrugging off the pressure and focusing on the job in hand.

"It's easy not to get affected by it," said Pearce.

"My job is to train players, to bring them in and motivate and I do that to the best of my ability.

"This time last year people were saying how well I'd done and I said wait until the end of the season and now I say wait until the end of the season again and judge me then."
