Manchester City chairman John Wardle has called the 4-0 defeat at Wigan "embarrassing" and has told the players to "take a long look at themselves". Writing on the club website, he said he had every sympathy with fans who walked out early on an "unacceptable" display.
"This club is not used to this type of performance and won't accept it. We are determined to put it right," he added.
"I sat with the board of directors and we were totally embarrassed by what happened on the pitch."
Wardle said he would welcome any outside investment in the club and would also give manager Stuart Pearce the resources needed to strengthen the team in the transfer window.
"As a major shareholder, I would be the last person to stand in the way of anyone who wished to come in with investment to move the club forward," he stated.
"We will support the manager in the January transfer window. We have already invested a net 8.5m in players this year and we will continue to look for opportunities to improve the squad."
