Macclesfield Town must stick together - Gary Simpson

Macclesfield Town's young squad need their first win of the season to boost confidence, says boss Gary Simpson.

The Silkmen have failed to win in their first four games this season and lost 3-0 away to Accrington at the weekend.

Simpson told BBC Radio Manchester:"The longer you go without winning the longer the doubt creeps in.

"We had a little chat after [Accrington] for quite a while about sticking together and trying to do some things right and what we've got to do."

Simpson is in his first full season in management.

After releasing a number of players at the end of last season the club signed seven in the summer and the manager indicated some may still be getting used to first team football.

"They're young lads from various walks like reserve football, non league football and what have you and they've just got to stick together," he said.

"We've got to get back down to the basics doing the right things and working hard. At the end of the day it's our job to get them back up there."
