Ince parted company with Swindon after only three appearances |
Paul Ince increased speculation linking him with the managerial vacancy at Macclesfield after watching their 3-2 defeat by Bury from the stands. The ex-England midfielder, 39, recently ended a short playing spell at Swindon.
Ince left before the end of the game, apparently to avoid questions about his future - but is expected back at Moss Rose on Monday for more negotiations.
"The board have kept me informed of proceedings. I know Paul was watching," caretaker boss Ian Brightwell said.
"There were two or three other candidates here as well, but I still want the job."
Brightwell has been in caretaker charge since Brian Horton was sacked by the League Two club earlier this month.
Ince was a free agent after leaving Wolves in the summer and eventually signed for his former England team-mate Dennis Wise at Swindon at the end of August after a long period of negotiations.
However, after only three appearances for the Robins, he left because of the difficulties of commuting from his Chester home.
