Ince has been keen for a move into coaching

The 38-year-old former England international has put pen to paper on a one-year deal at the County Ground.

Ince told the club website: "It was a major decision for me, but I felt that coming to Swindon was the right move.

"I came to the game against Stockport and there was a buzz around the place. The atmosphere was fantastic and that made my decision for me."

The move had been held up during the week as the club needed to make sure they are complying with Football League rules on wages, according to club director Bob Holt.

League Two clubs are not permitted to spend more than 60% of their total turnover on player salaries.

Holt told BBC Radio Swindon that the club were close to the 60% limit, and that the League required them to pledge more money to cover the deal - but the move has now been approved.

Former England midfielder Ince has been without a club since leaving Wolves in the summer.

Another League Two side, Hartlepool, have already been a victim of the 60% rule, which left them under a transfer embargo for a spell.
