Macclesfield are on the verge of bringing experienced midfielder David Smith back to the Moss Rose.

The former Norwich, Oxford and Stockport midfielder had been on loan at the club last season.

And, at the start of the month, Macclesfield boss David Moss was scuppered in his bid to lure him away from Irish Premier League side Drogheda.

But Moss has since renewed is interest and is lining up an 18-month contract for the 32-year-old.

They hope to complete the deal in time for Saturday's visit to York.
