Lincoln City's youth department has been given a large investment, as the club seek to fill a financial shortfall following relegation from League Two.

The funding has come from former Imps defender Chris Moyses, who will also take on a part-time coaching role alongside head of youth Grant Brown.

Moyses told BBC Lincolnshire: "It's a win-win situation.

"I'm bettering myself in my football career and the club gets much needed investment in the youth set-up."

The size of the investment by businessman Moyses, who stepped down from his role as manager of non-league Lincoln Moorlands Railway to take up his position with the Imps, is not known, but it is understood to be for an initial year with an option to extend it by a further two years.

The 44-year-old played five games for the Imps between 1982 and 1984.

Lincoln vice-chairman Chris Travers welcomed the investment, saying: "Unless the community get involved in supporting the youth department there is a possibility there won't be one.

"We're limited in what we can do in terms of restructuring so it's vital we get we get the support of the widest possible community, business or otherwise."

Chairman Bob Dorrian had previously said relegation from the Football League would cost the club £500,000 in lost revenue, and that areas in which budgets could be cut would have to be found.
