Lincoln City have named former Southend boss Steve Tilson as their new manager on a two-and-a-half year deal, with Paul Brush as his assistant.

Tilson, 44, was named Southend boss in 2003 after two spells playing there.

He led them to successive promotions, including a win over the Imps in the 2005 League Two play-off final, but was relieved of his duties in July 2010.

Lincoln have been searching for a new manager since Chris Sutton resigned for personal reasons on 29 September.

First-team coach Scott Lindsey will remain in caretaker charge for Saturday's game against Shrewsbury, before reverting to his usual role.

Lindsey told BBC Lincolnshire: "I've known him [Tilson] for a long time and played with him at Canvey Island.

"The Southend team that he managed always got the ball down and played, which is how he was as a player.

"He's got a brilliant track record and he's still very young and he will be good for the club."

Brush was Tilson's assistant at Southend and the pair will officially take over on Monday.
