Lincoln chairman Dorrian 'shocked' by Chris Sutton exit
Dorrian was appointed Lincoln City chairman in June 2010
Lincoln City chairman Bob Dorrian says the resignation of manager Chris Sutton was completely unexpected.
Sutton and his assistant Ian Pearce left for personal reasons on Wednesday.
Dorrian told BBC Lincolnshire: "It was a shock to me. I asked him several times to reconsider but he was adamant that that was what he wanted to do."
Coaches Paul Musselwhite and Scott Lindsay have been placed in temporary charge, with the board set to meet on Thursday to discuss Sutton's successor.
"We'll probably be looking at someone up-and-coming, maybe from non-league, or alternatively a young but experienced league manager," said Dorrian.
Sutton's departure following Tuesday's 0-0 draw at home to Burton Albion came exactly a year after his appointment, with the Imps 20th in League Two - the same as when he took charge.
But Dorrian still felt Sutton had been a success at Sincil Bank.
"I'm not disappointed because I think everything we've done under Chris has been for the best," he said.
"I think we have got a better squad of players now and the club is looking as though we might start to do something soon, so I don't think the money that we've spent was wasted at all."
