Jackson signs contract extension

Lincoln City manager Peter Jackson has signed a two-year contract extension to keep him at Sincil Bank until 2011.

The deal was verbally agreed with chairman Steff Wright in September but Jackson said then that he would not sign until he felt he had earned it.

He told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "After the massive win at Gillingham on Tuesday and being unbeaten in 2009 I felt that this was the right time.

"I'm extremely pleased and honoured to be offered it and to sign it."

Wright said: "I'm pleased to have put pen to paper and got the issue put to bed, and pleased that Peter's in the driving seat for the next two seasons.

"I don't think [the delay] has done any damage at all, but we are getting to the latter stages of re-negotiating with players over their contracts for next season and it's important that they're clear as to who'll be in charge."

Jackson added: "I think it gives more security, when you think that around 30 managers have lost their jobs since the start of the season.

"They've backed me here and that's what a club like Lincoln needs.

"They don't need to sack the manager every 12 months, they need stability and hopefully I can bring that to the club and move it forward."
