A consortium led by Lineker has had a takeover bid accepted and is hoping to bring the Foxes out of administration within six weeks. "Originally I said I wasn't going to go on the board but I admit I have been persuaded," Holmes told BBC Radio Leicester. "There was a feeling we needed a fresh start with a new chairman from outside the old board and I am happy to take this on at this point.
"In the close season we will look at the situation again." Holmes will take up his new position when the takeover is completed. And he will be joined by seven other people on the board, including former chairman Martin George and former plc boss Greg Clarke. A place on the board for the Foxes Trust and the American financier, Teachers, has also been made available, although the Trust's place is subject to it reaching a set financial target. But Lineker will not be taking a place on the board. Holmes has also assured the club's supporters that although the club's takeover will not be completed by 1 January no players will be sold when the transfer window opens to generate funds. "No player will be sold unless the manager thinks it in the interests of the club," said the chairman elect. Holmes, who is managing director of sports agency SFX, will have to give up his football agent's Fifa and FA licenses to take up his position as chairman. |
