Dean Bennett has signed a new one-year deal with Kidderminster Harriers.

The Wolverhampton-born 31-year-old ex-Wrexham and Chester midfielder has spent most of his career at Aggborough, playing over 300 games.

The former West Brom youth player first joined the Harriers nearly 10 years ago to the day when he signed from Bromsgrove Rovers on 1 August 1999.

And he was a key part of the team which Jan Molby led into the Football League for the first time a year later.

He then joined Denis Smith's Wrexham in the summer of 2004, nine months before the Harriers lost their five-year hold on a place in the Football League.

After two seasons at the Racecourse Ground, he then moved up the road to their neighbours when Mark Wright signed him for Chester.

But then Chester boss Bobby Williamson allowed him to return to spend the majority of the 2007/08 season on loan.

And, following his release from the Deva at the end of that season by new Chester boss Simon Davies, Harriers manager Mark Yates brought him back to Aggborough on a more permanent footing.

"I'd had a few phone calls this summer but it never crossed my mind to leave Kiddy," said Bennett. "It was just getting it sorted out.

"I was gutted we didn't make it on the last day of the season but the gaffer is working just like he did last pre-season to put a good squad together.

"If we can get a good start then hopefully we can do well - nobody is here just to make up the numbers."
