Andy Ferrell is facing being sidelined for the rest of season

Kidderminster Harriers midfielder Andy Ferrell admits his season is probably over following an operation on a cartilage injury.

Ferrell told BBC Hereford & Worcester the surgery had gone well but he is now focusing on a comeback for next season.

"I had a double tear in my cartilage but it's all done well now and I was looking at a four-week timescale.

"But the way the surgeon was talking it doesn't look like I will be playing at all again this season," he said.

Ferrell says the knee problem has been troubling him for some time and, with the benefit of hindsight, he should have not tried to hide the extent of the problem from the Harriers management.

The midfielder said he finally conceded defeat over the injury when he realised that it was starting to impact on his contribution to the club's promotion push.

"I don't enjoy watching football when I want to be playing, but the operation had to be done," he said.

"I have had the problem for seven months now and it had started to affect my performances.

"I am the first to admit my performances had dropped and I just tried to put a brave face on it," he added.

Ferrell has not completely ruled out playing a part in that promotion push this season but he knows it is a long shot.

"If I do manage to come back before the end of the season then I will be the happiest man alive," he said.

"If not, then I will be the first to be supporting the lads because I think the club deserves to be in the play-offs this season because we have been there or thereabouts all year."
