Harriers edge Ilkeston in Trophy

Kidderminster Harriers ensured a third round FA Trophy tie against York City with a thrilling 5-3 win at Ilkeston Town on Tuesday.

Stefan Moore settled the tie with a late goal with Justin Richards, Brian Smikle, Martin Britain and Russell Penn also on the mark.

Kidderminster boss Mark Yates told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "Credit to Ilkeston for really giving it a go.

"I thought some of our play was outstanding particularly the goals."

Richards produced a fine 20-yard shot to open the scoring in the 18th minute, and led 2-0 three minutes later after Smikle rifled a shot into the roof of the net following a one-two with Richards.

Tom Cahill pulled one back for the home side before Harriers' restored their two-goal advantage in the 51st minute when Martin Brittain curled in a low free-kick.

The name of the game was to get through and we have done that and have a home tie in the next round.

Harriers manager Mark Yates

Ilkeston's Marc Newsham raced between defenders Mark Creighton and Martin Riley and finished well to make it 3-2, before Penn fired Harriers into a 4-2 lead in the 68th minute.

Cahill was again on the mark but Moore put Harriers through with a goal seven minutes from time.

But Yates was not happy at letting in three goals: "It's the best we have played for a while, passing and opening teams up, but I am a bit annoyed at the goals we conceded.

"The name of the game was to get through and we have done that and have a home tie in the next round."

Harriers: Bartlett; Baker; Creighton; Riley; Lowe; Smikle; Ferrell; Penn; Brittain (McDermott, 72); Moore (Jones, 91); Richards (Barnes-Homer, 72).

Unused substitutes: Knights; Coleman.
