Harriers chairman calls for help

Barry Norgrove says he cannot afford to put any more into the Harriers

Kidderminster Harriers chairman Barry Norgrove says the club need new investors to plough more money into the club, or they may face cutbacks.

He told BBC Hereford and Worcester that his building company is feeling the effects of the credit crunch.

Norgrove is looking for groups or individuals to invest at least 50,000 into the Blue Square Premier club.

"If we can't afford to put money in and get more people to help, we will have to make cuts," he warned.

"We have to keep Kidderminster Harriers running. That's the main thing."

Norgrove is looking for groups or individuals to invest at least 50,000, which would pay for a place on the board.

"I cannot help the club as much as I would like to," said Norgrove.

"I'm looking for investors to come onto the board, or to come into the club in some shape or form and help me."

Norgrove is grateful to the regulars who turn up at Aggborough. But, despite having risen to their highest place since being relegated back to the Conference three years ago when they briefly reached second in the table, they are not getting the sorts of gates they have budgeted for.

Still sixth in the table ahead of Saturday's home game with Ebbsfleet, Harriers currently average just over 1,500 every week - almost 1,000 short of their target figure.

"To stop in the black we need 2,500," said Norgrove. "While we were in the league we were getting those gates, so we have to top the rest up out of our pockets.

This year is the right time to get involved, as we are in a good position in the table

"When we had local derbies with Shrewsbury and Cheltenham and the like we had more away supporters as well, and we don't get those in the Conference.

"But we still have the same overheads we had as a League club.

"We are doing well in the Conference. We would like to keep that standard up but, to do that, we need some funds to bring players in.

"This year is the right time to get involved, because we are in a good position in the table."

Harriers' home game with Ebbsfleet (1500 BST) will feature on Sport on Saturday on BBC Hereford and Worcester.
