Law is working with a reduced playing budget from the start of the season

Kettering Town boss Marcus Law says he hopes to sign players imminently, but admits he must stick to a tight budget.

The Poppies are aiming to reduce their spending as part of a long-term plan to secure the club's future.

Law told BBC Radio Northampton: "There's quite a strict remit I've got to follow. The priority is to make sure there's a future for Kettering Town.

"It's a bigger challenge than when I joined the club. I'm hopeful things can get confirmed with us adding players."

Law has already seen two players join and leave the club since becoming Kettering manager in October.

Defender Nick Green signed from Barwell in November, and winger Jamie Towers arrived from the same club on a free transfer in December, but both have since been released.

"Jamie didn't feel it was right for his circumstances, and he couldn't commit himself to full-time football," said Law.

"Nick got thrown in and ended up slotting into places which wasn't the plan. The idea was for him to start fighting for one position to make it his own."

Law added he is considering moves for midfielders Jon Challinor and Alex Dyer.

Challinor, 30, came through the ranks at Rushden & Diamonds and is a free agent after being released by Newport County earlier this month.

Ex-Northampton Town man Dyer, 21, was on trial with the Poppies in July but has since played for Wealdstone.

"They have been recommended and they're free agents. We have got a tight remit and we've got to make sure it's right for the personnel and the club," said Law.
