Crawley Town sign defender John Dempster from Kettering
Dempster began as a trainee at Rushden & Diamonds
Crawley Town have signed Kettering defender John Dempster on an 18-month deal for an undisclosed fee after he pulled out of a move to Darlington.
The 27-year-old had agreed terms on a move to The Arena, but had a last-minute change of heart.
Darlington manager Mark Cooper told the club's website: "He was looking forward to coming up, but obviously Crawley have offered him a lot more money.
"I can't blame the player as he's going to get a lot more money."
Former Rushden & Diamonds and Oxford defender Dempster has scored one goal in 18 appearances for Kettering this season.
A statement on the Poppies website said: "Everybody involved at the club would like to thank John for the fantastic service he has provided us over the years and wish him luck at his new club."
