Midfielder Danny Thomas has insisted Kettering Town supporters are right to be enthusiastic about the team's prospects for the rest of the season.
Thomas, 28, struck the second goal for the Poppies in their 2-1 victory against AFC Wimbledon in the Blue Square Premier on Saturday.
"The fans definitely should be excited, but at the same time realistic," Thomas told BBC Radio Northampton.
Kettering are now seven points behind leaders Oxford with a game in hand.
"There's no point getting too carried away at this stage.
"Obviously we know what we want to do - and I think the fans know where we're aiming to be as well.
"We can achieve things with the players and the management team we have here, but there's always room for improvement."
Kettering return to league action at home to Stevenage on 31 October.
