Ipswich Town deals hit by 'commute', claims Roy Keane

Ipswich Town manager Roy Keane claims the club's location is hindering his ability to bring in top name players.

Keane made only three permanent signings in the last transfer window and told BBC Radio Suffolk that January could be equally frustrating.

"It's going to be difficult because of the fact - and I know people don't want to hear it - we are finding it hard to attract a certain player," he said.

"Experienced players don't necessarily want to commute to Ipswich."

Town have been forced to utilise the loan market six times this season, with Jack Colback, Rory Fallon, Jake Livermore and Darren O'Dea all set to return to their parent clubs this month.

Keane is looking into the possibility of extending their deals but with loan players unlikely to be allowed to play in Sunday's FA Cup third round clash with Chelsea, the Irishman is remaining cautious.

"We'll see over the next 48 hours. But we have to be careful because it's all well and good saying 'Can we have them to play next Sunday?' if we don't have a commitment from the clubs that they can stay longer," he said.

"If you were in their shoes why would you let them play in the FA Cup because they might want them back further down the line?

"I'd love to be sitting here giving the supporters lots of good news. We'll be doing our best but don't be expecting loads of players coming in.

"As much as I'm against getting too many loan players in, if that's what we're left to deal with then we'll have to look at that.

"We're looking at maybe one or two younger players to maybe come in and give us that boost."

Keane added he hopes the hamstring injury which saw Gareth McAuley last just 45 minutes in Monday's 1-0 defeat by Nottingham Forest is a minor tweak.

And the club will not be appealing against Grant Leadbitter's red card in the same game, meaning he will serve a three-match ban.
