Ipswich Town sweat on Grant Leadbitter scan

Ipswich midfielder Grant Leadbitter will undergo a scan on the ankle he injured against Burnley on Saturday amid fears he faces a lengthy lay-off.

The 24-year-old left Portman Road on crutches after a challenge from centre-half Clarke Carlisle.

Boss Roy Keane told BBC Radio Suffolk: "It was a hefty enough challenge on the boy and he's in a boot, we're concerned he may have chipped an ankle.

"That would certainly rule him out for a long period of time."

He added: "It doesn't look good because Grant's a tough boy and for him to come off he must have been badly injured."

The setback comes at a time when fellow midfielder David Norris felt the side were settling into a new formation.

Town lined up with Luke Hyam behind Norris and Leadbitter in an approach the 29-year-old feels gives him the freedom to roam forwards.

"I think the formation's helped me and Grant," he said.

"We've got Luke behind us and it gives us a bit more licence to be in and around the box and as a midfielder it's always nice to score as well create."

Norris was handed the skipper's armband after Keane stripped want-away striker Jon Walters of the role.

The Town boss made it clear the 26-year-old's reaction to being told he was losing the captaincy did not stand well with the club's hierarchy.

He said: "As long as I'm manager, and hopefully it's a long time, he won't kick a ball for this club again."

Keane went on to confirm there had been a second offer for Walters from an unnamed club after revealing Stoke had also shown interest.

He also said he was "quietly confident" of getting three more players in before the weekend trip to Crystal Palace.
