David Norris urges Ipswich Town to be ruthless

Norris impressed by 'quality' PSV

Midfielder David Norris has called on his Ipswich Town team-mates to be more ruthless in front of goal this season.

The 29-year-old featured for Town as they lost 1-0 to PSV Eindhoven in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.

With last season's poor scoring campaign on his mind, he told BBC Look East: "I think it's been one of our downfalls the past two seasons.

"But I think if we get the final ball right and start converting these chances we'll be OK."

Not a single Town player managed to reach double figures last term, but Norris reckons it would be unfair to judge their forward power based on their performance in the Netherlands.

He added: "I don't think we were ever going to get too many clear-cut chances against a team like PSV.

"But that is one thing we have to work on. If we get a chance we have to take it, especially in the league."

The game was setup in memory of Sir Bobby Robson, who, after dying 12 months ago, is fondly remembered by both sets of fans for his managerial stints at the clubs.

"Everyone loved the guy, he has respect throughout football," said Norris.

"It was a fitting tribute to him, the Ipswich fans turned out in very good numbers."

Meanwhile boss Roy Keane is hopeful of having Jon Walters available for the next pre-season game against Leiston on 27 July.

The 26-year-old club captain did not travel to Holland because of a virus.
