Walters started just three of Ipswich's last 15 games of the season

Ipswich Town midfielder Jon Walters is expected to return to pre-season training at the same time as his Portman Road team-mates.

The 25-year-old ruptured ankle ligaments at Wolves in March and then aggravated the injury five weeks later.

Physio Matt Byard told the club website: "Jon is progressing quite well and will go for a scan [to assess bone bruising] in early June.

"By the end of June it's hoped he'll be taking part in football drills."

The Republic of Ireland B international - who joined Ipswich from Chester City in January 2007 - scored seven goals in 35 starts last season.
