Former England international Nick Barmby has backed Nigel Pearson to bring success to Hull City.

The two played together at Middlesbrough where Barmby first saw Pearson's leadership skills.

Barmby told BBC Look North: "You can tell certain players are going to stay on in the game and become a manager and Nige was one of those characters."

Barmby has added youth coaching responsibilities to his playing role under the new regime.

He added: "All the lads have had a bit of banter towards us. I'm sort of doing it a day on and a day off because I still have to train.

"I still have a lot of desire to be involved in the first team but with the young lads there is a lot of fulfilment there and I'm really enjoying it."
