Brown plays down interest in duo

Brown has suffered a frustrating summer in the transfer market

Hull City boss Phil Brown is playing down interest in Cardiff's Wales international midfielder Joe Ledley and Sunderland striker Daryl Murphy.

Brown has missed out on some of his primary targets after the club's interest became public.

The Yorkshire club have already lost out in the chase for Fraizer Campbell, Marc-Antoine Fortune and Michael Owen.

Brown told BBC Radio Humberside: "We've got to be careful what we say because deals so far have gone by the wayside."

Brown confirmed that he would be interested in Ledley, 22, but he would only be a Hull target at the right price.

He said: "We haven't put a bid in or anything like that. There's talk that Everton are in for him, if that's the case we wouldn't stand a chance."

He also revealed that Republic of Ireland international Murphy, 26, could be set to join another club altogether.

Brown said: "I got a call over the weekend saying he was on his way to another football club and would I be interested in taking him? I think he's a decent striker myself but we haven't made any enquiries."
