Myhill hopes to make Hull history

Boaz Myhill is desperate to secure Premier League promotion with Hull City to prove his top-flight quality.

The Wales international goalkeeper and his Tigers team-mates will play Bristol City in Saturday's Championship play-off final at Wembley.

And he wants to prove his Premier League ability after being sold by Aston Villa four-and-a-half years ago.

"Every player wants to play at the highest level and we have a great chance of promotion," said Myhill.

The Californian-born 'keeper has proved an inspired signing helping to guide Hull from the Football League's bottom tier to within one game of reaching the top flight for the first time.

And Myhill hopes to complete his third promotion in five seasons to top a year where he won his first Wales cap in Luxembourg.

"We came to an agreement at Aston Villa that I was never going to play there," the 25-year-old recalled. "I was not ready.

"I wanted to play and I was fed up of playing two or three reserve games a month and basically doing nothing else but train.

"I think leaving was probably the right thing to do and I don't hold any regrets even though it was a club I've always supported.

"But things don't always work out the way you want them to in football and sometimes you have to leave clubs and work hard in order to improve. I'd like to think that's what I've done at Hull.

Myhill is quick to praise manager Phil Brown for the integral part the former Derby boss has played in transforming Hull's fortunes.

The Tigers saved themselves from the threat of relegation last season and under Brown's guidance Hull are on the brink of creating club history.

"He's a very positive manager who sets high standards," said Myhill.

"We had high aspirations at the beginning of the season which a few people raised eyebrows at, but we've gone some of the way to meeting them.

"We're fortunate really as we've got a good group of senior professionals like Nick Barmby, Dean Windass, Ian Ashbee and Wayne Brown and we're blessed that we've got them all over the pitch.

"They'll always answer any questions you've got, they'll always talk to you about football and try and point you in the right direction."

Myhill spent three months on loan at Bristol City in 2002 and is excited about Saturday's showdown where the winners will bank a 60m jackpot for achieveing Premier League promotion.

But he said: "Every now and then you do come against a club you were on loan to, or used to play for, and it's not something that is a motivating factor for me."
