Kay keen on Terriers' captaincy

New signing Antony Kay says he would relish the opportunity to captain Huddersfield Town.

The midfielder moved to Town on a free transfer from Tranmere Rovers, where he skippered the side last season.

"If he [manager Lee Clark] wants me to be captain the team them I'd love to do it," Kay told BBC Radio Leeds.

"I was captain at Tranmere last season and I know it helped me play much better. I thrive on the added pressure and perform much better."

Since his arrival at Huddersfield manager Clark has alternated the captain's armband, but has hinted he is looking for a personality like Kay to lead his side next season.

The West Yorkshire side beat a number of Championship and League One clubs to 26-year-old's signature.

"I could have signed for a few Championship clubs, but once I came down to the club and met Lee and the chairman their ambitions appealed to me," Kay explained.

"It is sad to leave Tranmere Rovers as I had some good times there and I wish them all the best but I am a Barnsley lad so it's nice to be back in Yorkshire.

"When I played against Huddersfield last season I was impressed with their passing game and they were a good team.

"Now I'm here I think there is no reason why we can't achieve promotion next season."
