Manager Lee Clarke insists Huddersfield Town are doing all they can to persuade goalkeeper Alex Smithies to stay.
The 18-year-old was man of the match in the 1-0 win over Leeds United and a host of Premier League clubs are keen to sign him in the summer.
"We have to convince him he is better staying here in the early part of his career," Clarke told BBC Radio Leeds.
"Eventually he'll go right to the very top, hopefully that's with Huddersfield," he added.
The England under-19 international is out of contract in the summer and his advisor rejected Town's original new contract offer.
But Clark has revealed a new improved offer has now been put on the table.
"He is outstanding footballer and young man. He's a terrific kid. We want to keep him here," the former Newcastle midfielder added.
