Huddersfield director of football development Gerry Murphy has left the club.

The 65-year-old joined Town in 1988 and has been responsible for developing a number of current first-team players.

Murphy said: "I am grateful for the support I have had from the board, players and everyone who has worked at the club during my time here."

"I have really enjoyed my time at the club but, as the saying goes, all good things come to an end."

He added: "I would just like to say that I am proud to be part of such a great club and I look forward to giving my support in the future."

Murphy also acted as the West Yorkshire club's caretaker-manager on three occasion.

Each time he steadied the ship and boasted a record of 17 wins, three defeats and six draws in those three spells.

Chairman Ken Davy stated: "Fans, players, staff and the board will be immensely sad at the departure of Gerry after his long and fruitful association with the club.

"His work at the academy is legendary and he has played a major part in the development of the club in recent years.

"It was a fitting tribute to all his work in football that Gerry should have been the first recipient of the Football League's Contribution to Football Award," Davy said.

"I would like to pay tribute to the support and energy that he has given to the club during the last six years of my involvement.

"The way he magnificently stepped into the breach on three occasions as caretaker manager, where he helped the team to enjoy some real success.

"Indeed, I think the records will show that during three spells as manager he has probably one of the finest records ever achieved by a manager of Huddersfield Town," he added.
