Glenn Morrison's second-half try gave the Bulls hope |
Huddersfield claimed their first league win at Bradford for 40 years to continue their bright start under new coach Nathan Brown. The Giants made a slow start and three early Paul Deacon penalties put the Bulls into a 6-0 lead. But tries from Martin Aspinwall and Jamahl Lolesi edged the Giants ahead by the break. Glenn Morrison's effort, converted by Deacon, restored the Bulls' lead, but Stephen Wild's try proved the winner. Brett Hodgson got stand-off Kevin Brown through a gap in the Bulls defence and the second-rower was in support to finish off. Hodgson's second conversion made it 16-12, but it was the home side who dominated the final quarter. Huddersfield's defence was tested to the limit, with Steve Menzies going close for the Bulls, but the visitors hung on to claim the spoils.
Bradford coach Steve McNamara: "We had some disruptions throughout the game which threw us off track a bit but we needed to do a bit better to win it. "They tried very, very hard. I can't fault the effort at all. We still look a bit rusty offensively but I'm very very confident and optimistic about the season." Huddersfield coach Nathan Brown: "The effort was sensational. We were not bright. There are a lot of things to learn such as building pressure and when to do things and when not to do them. "But, as far as commitment goes, they can be proud of their effort. The other team had enough penalties and enough ball to win three or four games but yet we still scored three tries to one. "As long as we keep trying that hard and slowly improve, I'm sure we can do okay in some games."
