Histon midfielder Neil Andrews has contract terminated

Histon

Midfielder Neil Andrews has agreed to leave Histon as the club look to manage their current financial problems.

The 30-year-old, who was handed a testimonial in May, was handed a one-year extension to his current deal over the summer.

He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "Once I knew I wasn't really wanted any more, I had to move on.

"I wish them all the best for the future, but now I just want to find another club."

Histon have been looking to cut costs following the arrival of Tony Roach as chairman in early November.

Manager Steve Fallon was suspended on Tuesday after a dispute over a restructuring of the club's wage bill.

Three further experienced first-team players were offered the chance to settle their contracts, but failed to agree terms.

Andrews says the situation with Fallon helped him to come to a decision over his future.

"If Steve was still manager then I would have probably had to think a bit harder, but I'm good friends with Steve and will always stick by him," he said.

Roach took over as chairman of the Stutes after Gareth Baldwin stepped down from the position after 17 years.

He has been critical of the way the club was run under Baldwin and claims they were close to entering administration.

Chief executive Allen Soraff says the Histon board are fully committed to reducing costs and denies they are interfering with playing matters.

"We as a board have to cut costs and we've selected four players who don't represent the future of the club.

"These are players who are coming to the end of their playing lives and the future of this club is with the academy."
