Fallon wants progress for Histon

Fallon wants to retain his team to challenge for the title next season

Histon boss Steve Fallon has made promotion the aim for next season after seeing his side knocked out of the Blue Square Premier play-offs.

The Stutes lost 2-1 on aggregate to Torquay in the semi-finals.

Fallon told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "We've got to make sure we learn from this season and push on.

"We've progressed for the last nine years and progression next year will be winning the play-offs or the league, so that's what we'll be aiming for."

Histon achieved their stated pre-season aim of reaching the play-offs with a third-place finish in the Blue Square Premier.

Following a 2-0 defeat at Torquay on Friday night, the Stutes needed a big performance at the Glass World on Tuesday but could only manage a 1-0 win.

After such an impressive season the likes of Lanre Oyebanjo and Josh Simpson are likely to have caught the attention of rival clubs, but Fallon is anxious to hold onto his star men for next year.

"We'll be doing all we can to keep progressing, and to convince all the players who were a big part of this season to be a big part of next season," he said.

Chairman Gareth Baldwin has echoed his managers sentiments and expects to see the side come back stronger next season.

"We're a small club in an embryonic stage and we're growing and learning," he said.

"We're disappointed, but we need to do as we did when lost to St Albans in the Conference South play-off final a couple of years back; we'll evaluate and come back stronger."
