Derek Riordan looking to extend stay with Hibernian
Riordan's return to Easter Road from Celtic has been a success
Hibernian forward Derek Riordan is open to extending his stay at Easter Road.
The 27-year-old forward has a year of his contract to run and when asked if he was looking to extend his terms, replied: "Aye, I'm happy here.
"I came back from Celtic and I'm playing regularly now and every footballer enjoys that. There's nothing better than that.
"I want to do well every season, so I've just got to go out there and try and play well every game."
Riordan began his career with Hibs, making his debut in green and white as a substitute in an Edinburgh derby with Hearts in December 2001.
He was a first-team regular by season 2003/04 and his goalscoring exploits saw him attract attention from clubs all across Europe.
However, he chose to make the short trip to Celtic in the summer of 2006 as his Hibs contract was winding down.
Riordan is extra special as a finisher and is a good distance ahead of anyone else
BBC Scotland football pundit Pat Nevin
Having been a fringe player at the Glasgow club, he returned to Easter Road two years ago and wasted no time rediscovering his form, scoring 28 goals in the last two seasons, despite often being deployed in a wide midfield role.
Mixu Paatelainen was the Hibs manager who instigated Riordan's return journey along the M8.
Since then, of course, John Hughes has taken over the reins at the club, replacing the Finn when he left Hibs by mutual consent in May 2009.
Riordan was almost an ever-present in last season's team that clinched a place in the Europa League qualifiers in which they recently were eliminated by Maribor of Slovenia.
If Riordan is offered a new deal at Hibs, it will please BBC Scotland football pundit Pat Nevin , who describes him as "the best finisher in the league".
"Nobody creates chances for Riordan; he creates them for himself and is fabulous, as far as I'm concerned," said the former Scotland winger.
"Riordan is extra special as a finisher and is a good distance ahead of anyone else.
"But the biggest problem is that he's played out wide. I'd love to see (Anthony) Stokes and Riordan playing as the two centre forwards because their understanding together is fabulous."
