McBride made over 50 appearances for Falkirk under John Hughes

Hibernian have signed former Falkirk midfielder Kevin McBride.

The 28-year-old from Bellshill started his career at Celtic before moving to Motherwell, making 57 starting appearances for the Lanarkshire side.

He was out of contract with Falkirk and agreed a two-year deal with the Edinburgh club.

McBride said: "I can't wait now to get started as a Hibernian player. I've already had a look at the training facilities and they're amazing."

The midfielder made over 50 appearances for Falkirk under Hughes before becoming a free agent after appearing in his final match for the club at the Scottish Cup final in May.

He also had a spell at Darlington before returning to Scotland, arriving at Falkirk in January 2008.

Hibernian manager John Hughes added: "Kevin is enthusiastic, always available for training and games and still has his best years ahead of him.

"He's one of the bravest boys on the ball and is not to be messed with on the park.

"He had a good grounding at Celtic as a youth and his ability to link defence to midfield is second to none."

Hibs have also confirmed that assistant manager Brian Rice has now followed Hughes from the Bairns to Easter Road.
