Scott Brown and Kevin Thomson want better deals with Hibs |
Scotland manager Walter Smith has urged Scott Brown and Kevin Thomson to show more responsibility in their contract dispute with Hibernian. The Edinburgh club have refused to renegotiate terms with the midfielders.
And Smith said: "While these players have signed the contracts just recently then there has to become a responsibility on a player.
"When he can receive freedom of contract, they have to start to honour their contracts a bit more."
The midfielders - who Smith named in his Scotland B squad last month - signed contracts in March that tie skipper Thomson to Easter Road until 2010 and Brown until 2009.
"I think we have a situation here which has changed over a period of time since the Bosman ruling was introduced," he said.

"Players now have much shorter contracts. We used to sign for life.

Celtic, Rangers and several English clubs are reportedly interested in the pair.
"It's not an unusual circumstance for other clubs to be interested in signing young Scottish players who are of interest to them, so Hibs have had to face that over a period now," said Smith.
"But I think where they will be disappointed is when they do sign their players on a contract then they are looking to get out of that contract without taking a great deal of responsibility for it."
